What if the Hunger Games only asked for one tribute, not two? What would become of Katniss, of District Twelve, of all of Panem, if that were so?

The 74th Hunger Games are over. Against all odds, Peeta Mellark has won, returning home to District Twelve a victor. But now all of Panem knows the secret he revealed in his interview-he is in love with Katniss Everdeen. Now Katniss has been given an offer-play up the romance with Peeta, and she and her family will be taken care of the rest of their lives. She is not the most willing to give up her life pretending to be in love with a boy she barely knows, but is considering it, solely for the sake of her family. Of course, there is still the matter of her best friend, Gale Hawthorne…

But bigger things are happening in Panem. Discontent is spreading. A secretive group, known only as the Underground, and working closely with District Thirteen, is trying to get a new rebellion started, one that will put President Coin of Thirteen in charge. They are just waiting, biding their time for one event to send the country over the edge. Will they be left waiting? Or will they start something themselves to get the ball rolling?
Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be, If we met up at midnight, in the Hanging Tree.
